Episode Thirty-Seven: Designing Your Habits Around The Person You Want To Become, with RJ Singh

Designing Your Habits Around The Person You Want To Become, with RJ Singh

In this week’s episode, I sat down with ultra-endurance athlete and father of two, RJ Singh.

RJ shares how he went from being a promising Olympian, to bouncing in and out of juvenile detention once he was introduced to drugs and alcohol.

After fleeing the US to avoid further criminal charges, RJ landed in Australia, which would later become the epicentre of his recovery.

In this conversation, we discuss the profound personality change that occurs when an addict takes a drink or a drug and how the idea of going back isn’t even an option.

RJ shares how he managed to tap into “a desire to live” which has helped keep him sober for over thirteen years.

He also highlights the power of example and the importance of surrounding yourself with strong sobriety and we also discuss how he’s learnt to navigate romantic relationships in recovery.

As the founder of Ultra Habits, RJ is no stranger to pushing his body to the limit and he shares how facing physical challenges has helped him battle his mental demons and protect his recovery. RJ is all about designing your habits around a vision of who you want to become which, when looking at the turn around in his life today, is something he clearly embodies.
